Different IP addresses on same(?) network?

Specs: Windows 7

Just spent too long on Tech support with HP. Have wired/wireless DSL router (Gateway 2Wire). Windows 7 computer hooked up wired to router,IP address completely different from (ALL numbers different, not just last 2) all other devices connected to network (Windows Vista is wireless, Windows XP wired, HP printer wireless-all have same basic IP address except for last 2 digits). Tech support (HP) states that I need to correct IP address on Wondows 7 computer to print wirelessly to printer, although I have been doing it for at least 6 months until today. The printing problem? After printing 740 cards properly, the printer will not print the remaining 5 cards, no matter what I do! Followed HP instructions, got irritated and called Tech Support, and am now really po'd. Tech support uninstalled the printer from the Windows 7 comp, and says I need to get IP address changed to same prefix as other devices BEFORE reinstall. I do need all the computers to be able to print to the printer wirelessly, and don't understand why the IP address is the problem, since the computer could print to the printer anything except for the tail end of that big print job. Don't particularly want or need the comps to connect to each other though, just to the printer. Help, what should I do?

This would be a problem. ALL numbers should be the same EXCEPT the last three.

Simple questions; what is your win7 ip and what is the printer ip?

Win 7 IP COMPLETELY DIFFERENT-can get you the info when I go into the office. The other devices are the same-just noticed the last 2 digits being different, not the last three. Will report when I get to the office.

Win 7 IP 70.128.1xx.230 Printer IP 192.1xx.1.66 I checked, and all other devices have same 'prefix' as the printer. I re-installed the divers for the printer this am, and the blessed thing is printing the remaining 5 pages of the print job in spite of not having the sam IPs. Would you suggest changing the IP on the Win 7 unit, or just counting my blessings and remembering what I did for when it goofs up again?

shoiuld be a simple operation to change the printer from the 192 to the 70 so its in the same subnet. Do you know how to get to the printer menu and change the ip address?

If not tell use the make and model printer.

Got frustrated this am. Reinstalled printer on Win 7 machine, and PRINTED WIRELESSLY the remnant of my print job, and 60 pages of more stuff. Seems to be working ok, and I'm afraid to change anything! IP addresss stll don't match, and if I change the IP on the printer to go with the Win 7 machine, will that goof up the printing on the Wn XP and Vista machines that already print correctly and wirelessly?

Oh I see. All the workstation EXCEPT your win7 box are in the same subnet. This explains why they can print and you couldn't. Though you can print now means you are dual homed [ wired and wireless] and your wireless is in the correct subnet.

You need to change YOUR ip address. Which brings me to my next question; why aren' you all using dhcp?

Old 'puters. The Win 7 is the newest. The router is almost as old a the XP puter. The XP puter is going to go offline at the end of the year/beginning of '11; the Vista probably shorty therafter, to be replaced with a Win 7 unit. At the same time I imagine we'll change the router, and there's discussion of getting Ipads for patient records sometime next yar. So the system is in flux, and I think MAYBE the best thing to do is wait and see. I just scanned to the Win 7 with no problem, and the fax works correctly too. Didn't know there was dhcp until now.

If you have patient records you are under Hipaa. If sending these records wirelessly you have a number of constraints according to Hipaa.

It does not appear you have a network admin or this printing issue would have been solved in 5 minutes.

I am presently rewriting our companies Hipaa compliance documentation as well as addressing the Red Flag Rule, PCI DSS [credit card handling] along with others like 45 CFR 160,162,164 plus whatever else I end up finding on the way.

I mention Hipaa compliance because you need to be concerned and address HOW you are exchanging information. Just a FYI and good luck!

A company called EZBiz has a HIPAA compliant system for practice management married with EHR. It utilizes Ipad for data entry. Had no need for network admin so far, but can see where it will be a necessity when we go EHR. The Ipad module just transmits to the CPU, wirelessly, but I know it will have to be a closed network with significant security. The Red Flag rule and PCI DSS is of minimal effect here (very small office in very small community, no storage of cc info,we get good ids on every patient with treatment). Don't anticipate exchanging EHR or PHI with anyone anyway, it's just a better way of keeping patient records than transcription. Chiropractors here do not have Rx rights,and our records are generally for our own use and are not disseminated without proper authority. Thanks for the heads up tho, and the info. Doc plans on getting a network admin when the equipment is upgraded. Considering I just upgraded from Medsoft DOS to Medisoft v8, after 15 years, I'm not holding my breath!
