I have a Linksys wrt54g wireless router and am trying to get ics to work with it and after failing called Linksys and they said that the router is not compatible with sharing dialup. Is there a way around this? I have a desktop running XP home that would be sharing the dialup connection to a laptop also running XP home. The laptop is connected to the router with a wpc54g pcmcia card. I can share files no problem, but just can't get the internet shared. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Right now I have the desktop that accesses the internet through a dialup conneciton. It is connected to the router from a pci nic with cat5 to port 1 on the router. I have the laptop connected with a wireless pcmcia card. I basically just want to be able to use my laptop anywhere in the house to connect to the dialup internet the desktop provides. I have tried XP's wizards for ICS and disabled firewalls. I have also unchecked all the proxy boxes in internet explorer. I see an internet gateway icon under network connections on both computers, but when I try to open my web browser from the laptop it doesn't connect.

the problem is the router. The optimal configuration would be a standalone access point.
internet <-> ics box <-> switch <-> ap <-> wireless hosts
in order for ics to work the internal interface needs to be statically assigned and all pc's connecting to that interface need to be on the same subnet.
i can think of one way to make this work without changing the hardware.
set the wan interface of the router to dhcp and using a crossover cable connect to the internal interface of the ics box. connect any pc's to the wireless router via either wireless or wired to the switch on the back. however, now you have two subnets and file / printer sharing will not be pretty from your wireless clients to the ics box.
personally i'd go out and buy a cheap access point and do it right. I've worked this configuration in production believe it or not and it works well. (I know a cisco 1604 would do a better job but ics is cheap)

Thanks for the info,
I will either go out and get a cheap AP or I will wait until I get broadband which I will be switching to when I move in the next few months. Thanks again for your help.
