yeah i posted this in the win2000 forum but its been a day and a half with no replies. i guess ill post this in the networking specific forum instead.
ok im trying to run a dial up server on my server computer, a P2 400 running windows 2000 server. 2 NIC cards (one used) and a 56k modem.
its already set up as a domain server, so it wont let me use the network connections dialog to set it up. it tells me to use Routing and Remote Access. i tried mucking around in there, but i dont really understand anything.heres what i want:
- remote computer (laptop) dials in through modem, only one user (me) is accepted, using a username/password, and only at certain times of the day. im mainly looking for internet access, but LAN would be a nice bonus.- on the other end, the network is like this. cable modem>router>server (as well as the other computers on the network through the same router).
- this network is set up for static IPs only, the router's DHCP is disabled.can anyone walk me through (or post a link to a site that has one) the details on setting something like this up? im computer savvy, but im slightly over my head here with all these various options. im not sure what ones i need to use to get the desired effect.
thanks,
Dave

Short of a book, you can find all that is needed on the MS technet site. In fact most is word for word what their books offer.
See topics on radius and ias and ras. See the 2003 topics if you wish. There isn't much changed between them in this case.
