i was wondering how i could change a wireless router into a simple access point. i have a USR8054 (DHCP enabled) connected to my DSL router and my desktop computer.the wirelss range of the USR8054 dosnt cover the entire house. i recieved a free DI-524 wirless router when i bought my laptop. i have file and printer sharing enabled on my desktop and i cant access them when i connect wirlessly throgh the DI-524 when they are all connected via eathernet into the USR8054. i know this is because the DI-524 has DHCP enabled. when i connect i can browse the internet wirelessly and thats about it. ive tried to disable DHCP on the DI-524 but that makes matters worse as internet browsing dosnt even work. i would like to avoid spending anymore mony for a repeater or an actual accesspoint. the DI-524 wireless router can be emulated here: http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di524/h_wireless.html Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

crossover cable from the first routers lan port to the lan port on the di-524. Disable dhcp on the 2nd router. DHCP should flow thru the 2nd router as a AP

Give a person a fish you feed them for a day.
Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Wow, What a solution. I don't know why I didn't think of that before! I just bought a new 3com ap. Probably better anyway... Anyway it works!

Lol hey im trying to do the same think, but one problem i see is that the dlink says it don;t matter if you use straight thru or crossover cables with the network. feature for people who know nothing and would be screwed if they used wrong cable. im assuming that this means it compisates for waht kind of cable is being used meaning it becomes harder to use just as a AP if it notices that a crossover cable is being used and idk what would happen if it was hooked lan on first rotuer to wan on second
