Is there a way I can assign IP's via MAC address, but in a DHCP fashion?(in win2k advanced server....has to be win2k inherant service or third party DHCP daemon)
I know you can reserve IPs for specific mad addresses, but I need it to be DHCP, we have a lot users, but very few IPs...and static IP's aren't an option. Basically, i want a list of MAC addresses that the DCHP Daemon will cross reference before sending out an IP. So, heres the schema.
End user plugs in laptop cable.
Laptop requests IP
If MAC address is on list, then DHCP Assigns IP
else, no IP...no network.Remember, this has to be Win2k ...we cant use linux (we are currently using it, and are being forced to get rid of it)

Should be possibly to build a filter based on the MAC address; route all requests from MACs not on the list to some bogus IP address that's never used. However the MAC address can be spoofed fairly easily so it wouldn't be much of a deterrent. Might discourage the casual hackers.
