DHCP server assigns wrong gateway

D-link Dir-615 wireless n router
January 2, 2010 at 22:35:43
Specs: Windows XP
My network has a cable modem connected to a router (DI-
808HV) which is then conected (between LAN ports) to a
wifi router (DIR-615) being used as an acces point.
The first router's DHCP server works sporadically which
causes an issue for mobile devices (laptops, phones, etc.).
I tried enabling the DHCP server on the wifi router (in a
different address space) and it worked fantastically at
giving out IP's, the only issue was it told the clients that it
was the default gateway ( instead of the true
gateway which is the first router (

I cannot simply switch the locations of the routers because
the first router is in a concrete enclosed closet which
would give bad wifi signal.

How do I change the wifi router to tell DHCP clients the
correct gateway address?

Thanks in advance.

You logon to the router
you go into the dhcp server scope page
you set the right gateway
you save the settings
you are done

It may not be possible with the physical layout of your devices, but, what if you connected the cable modem to the wireless router (leaving it in the same place it is now), and (assuming there are wired devices that need to be connected) replaced the wired router with a switch or set it up to be just a switch.

If that isn't possible, then as wanderer points out, you should be able to setup the proper gateway on the wireless router.

@RTAdams89: it never even occurred to me that i could move the
modem... if all else fails ill try that.
@ wanderer: I had already looked everywhere on the router setup
and in all the help information and I could find no place to change
the gateway.

I see now that there is a firmeware upgrade available, so I will try
that and see if it adds the functionality and let you know how it
turns out either way.
