I have a Wireless access point / router with a standard DHCP range for 50 IP adresses(i.e. 50 - 99). I have 2 PCs + sometimes a Laptop conected. For 1 PC I would like to setup a unique Static IP outside of the range of the DHCP (i.e. 30). But somehow, the PC with the Static IP Adress X.X.X.30 is not recognise by the router anymore.
What am I doing wrong? Where do I find help? [I'm a total newbie for networking :-( ]
Can someone give some light in the tunnel?
Thnx

In addition to setting the static IP, have you also set the subnet mask and the Default Gateway?

No, I haven't. No idea what this is and how to do it. Could it be that some of this is made by default by the router set up?
I have a TrendNet TEW-411BRP.

You set the gateway address and subnet mask in the same place you set the static IP address. The gateway address should point at your router.

To be sure you're putting the proper values in, open a command prompt window on any client PC that is connected and working properly and type the following command:

ipconfig /all

This will list all TCP/IP settings. You will want the exact same Default Gateway, DNS Server(s), and Subnet Mask applied to the PC you're going to statically apply the IP info to as is displayed when you run that command on a working client.
