Hi,
Currently i have dial up internet but no broadband (it's getting here slowly!). Anyway, in the meantime i have a laptop running win 2000 with a wireless LAN pcmcia card and a desktop running win xp professional with a linksys wireless access point/router (BEFW11S4) and a linksys 10/100 PCI NIC (LNE100TX).
The linksys documentation makes it seem like i must have a broadband internet connection out of the WAN port. I know this to be true for having an internet connection and for sharing it between the laptop and the desktop. But, for now i haven't got one.
All i want to do for now is to be able to share files between the laptop and the desktop. Can I do this??..
I thought all i need to do is connect the linksys AP to the desktop PC via RJ45 cable to my 10/100 PCI NIC. Then after some 'simple' configuration on the laptop and deskop i would atleast be able to share files between the PC and laptop via the wireless link. I am sure this is possible however i am a bit lost on the configuration details as I am new to this.
Can anyone please explain how i need to configure this for it to work??
At the moment, Win XP says my '10/100 NIC' cable is not connected even though it is connect directly to one of the wireless AP ports. I presume it is saying not connected as there is no connection from the AP WAN port to a cable/dsl modem?
Thanks for any advice!!
Brett

Here's a couple of quick thoughts that might get you up and running.
As far as you desktop machine...make sure your using a straight thru cat5 cable to connect to the built in switch on the access point. If your using a crossover, that i think comes with it...your not going to be able to connect.
Once you do get the connection, you want to make sure the laptop and pc are using the same protocol to communicate. If your going to be using the internet...i'm assuming it's TCP/IP. Now, you just want to make sure the two computers are on the same subnet and you should be good to go.
