desktop cannot access internet but can IM.

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a desktop and a laptop behind a router. Both are on vista. Yesterday, they both could access the internet. Today (after booting), the desktop cannot access the internet but can send and receive instant messages. From the laptop i can ping addresses on the internet but cannot ping the desktop; there is no reply. The desktop can ping everybody (local and internet.) From the desktop, "diagnose the connection" results in a clean bill of health for the internet connection, but no websites can be viewed.

If the desktop can ping the internet and work IM, i'm thinking it's a firewall issue or browser. Try disabling your firewall, if that doesn't work, download firefox on your laptop and use a memory stick to transfer to your desktop. See if that makes a difference.

I'm thinking a virus that's disabling some internet traffic.
