Descreasing file servers

in a win2k based network there r 12 file servers
to reduce the network traffic managment decide to make 3 file servers and 3 backup servers
the goal is with out shuting down those 12 servers
i need to make three file servers and three back up servre insted of 12 how do i make it please help me

It is not clear what your objective is except that you want to reduce the amount of servers from 12 to 6.

There are many considerations like what software and usage these servers are performing.

My suggestion is call in a consulting firm to do the analysis. May consider Blade servers.
