Comment:

When I execute the command ping www.hingedmind.com I get a local ip address. i.e. 10.0.0.10 and when I ping hingedmind.com I get 75.125.60.9, which is the correct address.

The problem:
I am unable to access this website through any browser. Another system on the same network has no problems. The other system on the network when they ping sees the correct ip address for both ways.

This makes me feel the problem is my system (XP Prof). What is it that is making my system default to a local ip address when I ping a domain name?

Hope this makes sense and thanks.

No idea why it happens. I take it that 10.0.0.10 is your local IP address and it only happens on this particular site.

One thing you might try is ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt.

That often solves some obscure problems.

Thanks for the response.

The most obvious of problems. I had forgotten a long ago entry in my hosts file...

Fixed...
