I had my Dell Inspiron with Truemobile 1300 that was running under Windows XP Home and everything seemed great, until I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium. The computer connects to the adapter but I have no connection to the internet. The installation went fine and the adapter card's power led is on but the communication led is always off. I created the network connection manually with the correct password but something is missing. I'm using the same settings I use to connect another laptop I have (a Toshiba) but it's not working for. Is there a patch for this adapter at Dell? Help! This is my wife's machine and she's over my shoulders right now! :)

First mistake was installing Vista. I'd highly recommend going back to XP. If you don't want to do that, go to Dell's Support site, enter the ST of the machine and see if an updated driver is available. Just wondering though, did you check for Vista drivers before changing the OS?

After running the Windows update a second time (this after the first major one) I deleted the manual connection I created previously and double clicked the available wireless connection (mine), entered my password, and it worked out! This was a great Christmas gift I gave to my wife since she wasn't really believing I could fix the mess... Yay! So, if you're doing a fresh Vista installing get all the updates you can before installing any periferals - it'll save you from lots of headaches, I tell you. Jennifer, thanks for your input but I don't think that it was a mistake upgrading to Vista since I've been using it for more than a year on my desktop computer and I consider it much more intuitive to work with and configure than XP... I agree it isn't "perfect" but XP wasn't either in its beginning and it was greatly criticized as Vista is now. If you don't have a hardware that is something a little bit above the minimum recommended by MS you'll face a huge bottle-neck and your box will just stall.
