I tried release and renew in ipconfig. When i try to renew it says unable to connect to dhcp server. Oh and the status is "limited or no connectivity" I am running on xp. If anyone can help. Did you read the manual for the router? Most have a setup guide. My Dlink router didn't come out of the box running DHCP. It had the following IP: 192.168.0.1 and I had to change my IP to one in that range to connect to it.

First disable the XP firewall: It's probably set to "Computer connects directly to the Internet" or however that option is phrased. Set TCP/IP properties to "Assign IP Address Automatically". Click on the "WINS Configuration" tab and choose the option: "Use DHCP Server for WINS resolution".
Connect your router's WAN port to the modem and a LAN port to your PC via straight-thru cables and reboot. Follow the instructions for configuring your router in the manual.
