Hi all, I have an old pc box (specs above) that I want to add to my existing net gateway. The RM Machine doesn't have an ethernet port, but I came across a cable that has a db9 connector on one end and an rj45 male connector on the other. Seeing as it has a serial port on the mobo can i use this to link it to the gateway, I've tried looking into it on google but its archaic technology that i'm not used to (my own pc is somewhat more advanced) but i'd still like to set up this box so that everyone in the family can use the net at the same time. From what I've read it appears that if it does work it will need some sort of software to allow the router to send data to the serial port. Any ideas?

Is the cable you're talking about flat and light blue in color? If your answer is yes, it's a Cisco console cable. Used for connecting to switches/routers to configure them. Unfortunately, you can't use this for a network connection I'm sorry to say.
Your best bet is to buy and install a NIC (Network Interface Card) in the PC in questin. $20 should get you a decent card. Don't forget to purchase another network cable with it....you'll need it.
