I have a 2 year old laptop that I am running on Win XP and has been my main computer since I bought it. I recently bought a desktop also running Win XP. Both computers are Dells. I am trying to move all of my files from my laptop to the desktop. I have a Cat5 Crossover cable that I am using for the transfer. I have tried using the Connection Wizard, but I think that I have a setting on my coimputer that is not correct because I cannot get the computers to recognize that they are connected to each other. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Need More Help Than Most!

Start/Help & Support. There is excellent instructions on networking.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and his wife will never forgive you.

Make a CD of the important files, put a date on it and label it "important Backupfiles." transfer the files with the CD or CD's, Put it in a safe place.
If the files are that important they should be saved anyway in case of virus or computer crash. No help here with your computer linking problem I know,
But it is always a good idea to backup, especialy when messing with important file trnsfers

Make sure 'File and printer sharing' ports are opened on the firewall (Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections, right-click the LAN connection>Properties> advanced tab>firewall settings>exceptions tab check 'file & printer sharing').
Getting computers to connect via cross cables can be notoriously complicated if it hasn't worked the first time. I strongly suggest you use another method. Consider using a memory stick, external hard drive, writeable CDs or networking guru.
