Hello all

thanks

It doesn't work the way you are thinking.
To do this correctly you want to do clustering. But you would need to put your data on SAS or NAS with both servers connected to that array.
You can get close with DFS and FRS.
Both servers need to be dns servers preferably ad intergrated, hold the global catalog and if doing dhcp have dhcp on the 2nd server but not authorized or do split scopes [half of a scope on one server and the other half on the other so there are no conflicts]
Apps: first you must buy additional server licences for the server based apps and install them on DC2. You should also talk to the software's support to make sure coping the data to dc2 will work if you bring DC2 up as the primary server in a failover and run the apps.
Data: You will want to engage DFS and create a alias for your shares. This will allow you to failover to DC2 by changing the pointer for the alias to now point to DC2 instead of DC1.
Use FRS to replicate the data/shared folders on DC1 to DC2.
That's it in a nutshell. There are other methods for failover besides clustering or file/app duplication. Some have two identical hardware platforms and using daily created images will restore a image of the server to the sidelined hardware and bring it up as a replacement. There maybe data loss from the time of the image to the time you have to restore the image to the hardware.
