I've been trying to connect my Win2K Pro Laptop and WinXPPro laptop with a crossover cable from Belkin; so that I can transfer files from my Win2K machine to the winXp machine. Actually they called it a null modem cable, I think, but those are the same, right? I've set static IPs on both machines, 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.110; set them to the same Workgroup. When I look on "Computers near me", I can see both computers -- but when I click on the other computer, it says something like "\\laptop is not accessible". Can someone HELP? This is driving me nuts!!

Are you sharing files or folders on each machine? Are you using a null modem cable as in "serial or cat5"?

And you must build user accounts on each machine for the other.

No user account (Like immerath one the Win2k and Roger on the Win XP) and you won't have access.

If your logon onto the Win2K machine is immerath and yur password is nice, build an account on the Win XP machine using the same info and you should be all right.
