i've been reading a lot of crossover bullitens and everyone is telling everyone "buy a crossover". I don't wanna buy one...I have the crimping tool, wires and rj45 plugs.
what is the color code on side 1 and side 2...I'd imagine they would be different. I thought about just doing it like normal one and turning the jack upside down before crimping...but I keep reading only two pairs are switched.
Ok, so the reason i need a crossover is because i want to use ICS...pc 1 has a wireless card, for sake of sanity and past bullitens and whatnot...let's just say i'm sharing a rj11 phone modem connection...it's basically the same thing.
I've got the sharing working using a router, but after rebooting a computer everything goes screwy...and I'm pretty sure it's the router settings....so since i'm only using 2 pcs and no longer using the wan of the router..i'm thinking do without it...is this the best way to go about this...a crossover cable?
thanks

You may not even need one. Try a standard patch first and see if one side auto configures.
If one was to config the common soho dsl router they would help protect there system a bit I'd think.

Unless im confused, i always thought crossover cables were used for like-to-like devices, such as router-to-router, host-to-host. ? Anyways... cross over cables are made by terminating one side as A and the other as B.

Thanks for the picture...I have no idea why I didn't just check the net for that...I was already here looking I guess.
I didn't test out a regular cable, but the crossover cable works out pretty snazzy. I was getting IP conflicts using the router, and when I'd finally get it working, it failed after restarting a computer. Everything works fine now
Thanks guys.
