I need some help on how to set up network between 2 PCs to be able to share files and play lan games. 1st pc - WinXP pro sp1, 2nd - Win95osr2.5 .
What protocol would you suggest me to use - tcp/ip, ipx, netbeui ? It would be nice if replies would be at length.Note: I've already connected 2 ethernets adapters with crossover cable. WindowsXP Firewalling is disabled. I am able to ping PCs each other but I cannot see the shared files from neither winxp nor win95 machine when using tcp/ip.

I would use tcp/ip only with no other protocols on win95. Did you try the networking wizard on XP?
Windows 95 network properties should look like the following...
Under Network Configuration Tab you should have
Client for Micorsoft Networks
Your adaptor listed
TCP/IP
File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks.Click File and Print sharing button and make sure the give others access to my files is checked.
Upon closing you will need to reboot machine and will probably need the win95 cd.
After it is done rebooting pick a drive or folder to share and do a simple share as Full access with no passwords to try it out.
You should be able to see it in My network places on xp computer/ view network places.
As for sharing a folder or drive on xp you will probably have to set up permissions for the win95 computer to access it and a logon name and password for the 95 machine.
XP's Help and support should give you enough info to get you going.
