I am trying to connect my XP and Win95 boxes. I bought a cable which has "patch" written on it. The XP box says my nic is unplugged. Do I have the corrcet cable? Do I need a crossover?

Thanks!

I don't think you have the right cable. A patch cable is probably made with stranded cable so that it will handle moving around. The easiest thing to do is get a hub to plug both machines into. Try looking at the ends to see how your cable is wired. http://ttiiggy.bizhosting.com/cgi-bin/image/templates/cable-colors.jpg

A patch cable is NOT a croos over. Patch is straight thru and a cross over has 1-3 crossed and 2-6 crossed on one end.
