I want to connect two pcs, running 98SE and ME. I was able to get two nic cards and some straight through cable for free. Since the price of a hub or a crossover cable are about the same, which is the better way to go?

If the price of a hub and a crossover cable are the same you should give a try to the hub. With a hub you will later be able to connect more than 2 pcs. You will the just have to buy a straight through cable for each new connection. Other way if you want to connect three pcs you will have to buy a hub anyway...
By the way, I'm surprised that the price of a hub and the price of a crossover cable are about the same ! 8-)

Thanks for the input. I would need about 75 feet of cable and the prices I saw were about $40, I also saw listings for a hub for about the same.
