Comment:

got a crossover cable to hook up my laptop with my desktop, the crossover cable only seems to work if i set the ip addresses manually to:
192.168.0.1 on the laptop and 192.168.0.2 on the desktop, if i do this i can freely share files/folders, but i lose my wireless internet connection on the laptop... if i set the computers to automatically detect addresses i get limited or no connectivity... ICS doesn't want to work, it says the address is already taken, no matter if the computers are set to auto detect or manually set addresses...

I'm sure you can mess with this every which way, but why not just get a router, wireless or wired, and plug into that to network your computers and share your Internet connection?

Perhaps I can suggest a solution.

Don't use 192.168.0.x on the crossover connections. Don't use dhcp. Set each end to 200.200.0.2 and 3. Engage your wireless.

Now you will find everything works. Reason it didn't before is your nics were in the same ip range as the wireless. Now they are not and ICS should work

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
