Cox Cable Node To Close For Comfort

My ISP is Cox Cable, and I have been having problems with my connection. My connection would drop. I would frequently have to restart my modem and my router. I called Cox, and they sent out a service man to check things out. The service man told me that because one of Cox's nodes is only about 20 feet from my router, my signal sometimes skips the node, and gets lost. Cox installed a reverse amplifier which did help - but not enough. Now my connection is a bit more stable, and if it goes down I only need to reset my router (the modem is fine). I called Cox again and was told that there is nothing else they can do. Is there anything else I can do to stablize my connection such as get a different router? My router is a linksys BEFSR41 version 2 with the latest firmware. I can't wait for affordable FTTP...
