I have 2 PCs, both decent spec desktops running XP SP2, internet is from Vigin Media cable set top box with Netgear wireless router, PC1 connects via cable ,PC2 connects wirelessly. Internet connection is fine on both PCs, both PCs can see each other and all shared drives, folders etc. The problem is that when I try to copy files from PC2 to PC1(while on PC1) after varying amounts of time and varying amounts of files copied PC1 crashes with a 0x000007e error code. When my daughter tried to copy files from her PC (PC2) to my PC (PC1) she lost all connection to the network. Any ideas? Oh, please feel free to treat me as a complete idiot with your replies as it saves my next post which will state that I am an idiot and dont understand your reply.

I suspect a bad or weak video card on PC1.Try swapping that out first and see if it makes a difference. (I know it doesn't seem logical, but try it for giggles.) Sometimes I think I understand everything, then I regain consciousness

Could that really be the problem, I was only tryin to copy some data from one pc to the other, it only happens at that time. Would it not cause problems when I am using the video card more, ie watching dvd, playing games etc? The price of a new video card would not make me giggle if it was not likely to be the problem, and I wouldn't really know what was involved with changing the video card and setting eveything back up again

Well, the error message you are getting is related to hardware. And the consensus on various forums points to a bad handling exception with the video card and secondly the hard drive. See if you can find a knowledgeable friend who may help you and loan you a video card. And the "giggle" thing was way of being light about your problem. Sorry if that bothered you. You can find used video cards for around $10. But from your reply you're going to need some help swapping it out. Sometimes I think I understand everything, then I regain consciousness

The giggle bit didnt bother me at all, I dont know too much about PCs so it supprised me that it could be related to a device that I wasnt really using at the time. looking up the error message on google and reading many threads it seems that it could be just about anything. I dont actually get the BSOD it auto restarts, the error mesage was from event viewer. How do I change the setting so that it does not auto restart but shows me the BSOD so that I can write down the whole error message?
