my cousin is at ohio state trying to connect to my ftp server here at home which is behind a linksys router. i have done the necessary port forwarding to allow him to break through the firewall. it lets him connect but it always gives a 10060 error and wont list the dirs. i had him turn passive mode on and off. but nothing works. is it becasue he is behind a campus firewall? that shouldnt make a difference when listing directories thogh right? i was in a dorm before and easily connected to ftp sites

My 2 cents. It is definetly a socket error for what it's worth. It is probably due to timeout error. Either you have too many directories/files or your connection is too slow or even the ftp computer could be underpowered. The problem is probably on the ftp side anyway you look at it. I've found WS_FTP to be good for accessing these types of connections.
End My 2 cents.

If that doesn't help just setup an http server instead. It's works just as well and can be accessed through a web browser. I could never access my ftp server through a web browser correctly. I don't know what your friend is using to access your ftp site.
