Comment:

I am having touble connecting two systems. The two desktops will connect if both are going through a hub, but if the hub is taken away the two systems do not see each other. the leds will not light up on the network adapters.

However if i connect my laptop to ether of these systems directly there is no problem. I have removed both firewalls on the systems and still no change.

Any help here would be much appreciated.

If you remove the hub, then what do you connect them to?

They have to be either connected to a hub, switch, SOHO router or directly via crossover cable in order for them to communicate.
