Specs: Windows 7, AMD
Hi all

I have a laptop running Windows 7 which i can access the wireless connection from my family's wireless router in the house over the road. Is it possible for me to connect my laptop to my desktop PC using a CAT5 and access the internet on the desktop which currently does not have internet access as we do not have a phone line installed yet as just moved in.

You can but it wont be very reliable and not very fast.

You install Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop and configure it as a host. You connect the desktop to the router using the laptops Ethernet IP address as the gateway. This will probably be

In effect the laptop acts as a router for the desktop.

You may run into an IP conflict if the router uses range. Some routers use as their own default IP and if this is the case you cannot use Windows ICS in a client system unless you re-configure the router to a different IP, and exclude from the DHCP range.
