We have a Linksys 4 port wireless router.
In the house we have:
2 wired PC's
2 wireless laptopsWhenever my daughter is downloading something my web pages take forever to come up. Very painful. If I disconnect her download everything is fine.
All the systems in the house are on static IP if that makes a difference.
Both my daughter and I are only about 5 feet from the router. Also I just updated the router firmware.
We have reset the cable modem and router recently. After the reset router settings do not have a Mac Address listed now, all 00 00... Not sure it that makes a difference either. Not sure where to find what needs to be there.
Our router is a 802.11b would it help to get everything up to 802.11g?
Thanks for any help,
Debbie

802.11g is definately better, but probably not the solution to your problem. If you are sharing the connection, and (as you say) your daughter is downloading a large file, then the speed of your connection will slow down. You only have a limited bandwidth/speed, which is being used up by your daughter's download. This is why the problem is resolved when she stops the download.
The only suggestion I can make is to limit her download speed somehow. Not sure if that's easy, or indeed such a good idea (kinda negates the value of having broadband).
I think it's just one of those things. You could ask her to use a download manager, and queue downloads for when the connection is less busy!?
