I have a router and whenever the other computer connects, the main computer seems to be messed up. What is the problem? For example, if I am on AIM and the other computer is also on AIM, my AIM stops. Same goes with searching the web also.

It sounds as though the two PCs are using the same IP address.
You should set up the router to assign the IP addresses with it's DHCP server and set the PCs to obtain the info automatically.
