I have home network from 2 years and was working very well by using Linksys compacted router (WRT54GC) with one desktop pc connected (wired) directly with the router and other labtop connected wirelessly. Becuase I'm using VoIP service the connection is as follow: Cable Modem to VoIP Gateway to the Router and then to the PC. This configuration was working very well without any problem for the last 2 years. My problem just started when the connection started dropping every 2-5 min and then re-established after around 2 mins. I have done the followings with no luck to fix the problem after each of them. 1- Upgraded the firmware of WRT54GC. 2- removed the VoIP Gateway so my connection is from the Cable Modem to the Router then to the PC. 3- Changed the Router to new one WRT54GS. and the still the same problem. 4- yesterday I changed the router again to another new one WRT54GL and was hoped to fix it but still the same problem.
But when I remove the router and keep the computer connected either to the VoIP gateway or to the Cable modem. the connection is fine without any drop. Anybody can help..I'm in this problem for the last 3 weeks. Oh, by the way i can connect to the shared documents between my 2 computers without dropping. The only drop is the internet connection.
