connection drops to many chat rooms

Specs: Windows Xp Pro SP2.
Hello There. I have a beetel 450bx1 adsl+2 router.
I have connected two computer systems to this wifi router.
one desktop ( win XP SP2, PIII 800, 384 MB RAM....connected wired to the modem) and another laptop (
windows vista basic, intel core 2 duo, 3gb ram.. connected
wirelessly to the modem). internet speed - 512 kbps to 1 Mbps.

My problem :

I get disconnected from many chat rooms, whereas other users in
the chat room don't get disconnected, so I assume the problem is
at my end. the DSL link in the modem light (yellow light) does not drop (flicker or blink )
whenever there is a disconnection from the chat room or clients. and also sometimes yahoo messenger gets logged out and logged in by itself.

DSL link on the modem drops rarely. seen it happen twice in the last week.

disconnection happens both in laptop and desktop

there is no problem in browsing websites on browsers and also
watching videos online. the problem only seems to happen in many
regular chat rooms I visit.

I have logged a complaint with the ISP, and the measures they have
taken so far are,

1) changed the copper wire from the DP ( distribution phase) box to
computer room.
2) changed the DSLAM port.

I have checked both the systems for virus, malware, Trojans, spyware etc., using Malware bytes Anti-Malware, Symantec anti-virus, BitDefender online scanner and Spybot-S&D with up-to-date definitions and full system scan and FOUND NO THREATS in both the systems.

Now I have asked for a replacement of the router. but haven't been
provided with the replacement since 2 weeks.

Meanwhile is there a way to diagnose where exactly the problem

Kind of hard to tell sometimes.

Start with event logs. Might show some issue.

A common issue is your router is set for a few things. One is to limit access to your system See logs for any attacks. See also dhcp lease times. Might be too short.

Try to ping the site when it works to see if you get a return. (not all sites return). Try things like tracert, pathping, telnet port 80 to that site.

Might have to setup wireshark and save logs.
