Connecting wireless network printer

When connecting a printer for remote printing on a wireless network does it have to be connected through the router or can it be connected to any computer on the network?

When connecting to a workstation, the workstation alway must running and has to share that printer to other users.

So if possible, it's better to connect it to the router, because the router is alway running.
