Folks - I am going mad about this...I am an expert sound engineer but I am having trouble with the connection of two wireless routers. My first one is a D Link DGL 4300 which is connected to my modem. All works fine with this one. The second one is an older netgear wgr614v4. I can see the wireless signal of this second router but I can't connect to it!!!Blast! Could any of you knowledgeable folks lend a hand?
Many thanks!ad astra per aspera

What is your thinking here? Since you mention both the working and nonworking wireless routers I am going to assume you want to connect them together wirelessly.
Can't do that unless they support wireless bridging.
Now if you just want to connect to the nonworking wireless router to configure it you need to set back to factory defaults and then do a wired connection to it to configure it.
You can download the manaul for that model from the manufacturers web site.

Hey wanderer,
Thanks for your reply.
I simply want to have two wireless networks here - one for the pc's on wpa and the other ofr those in wep. The D-Link has it's wireless on wpa. The Netgear will have a network on wep, to support older machines in my younger kids rooms.
All I want is to make the Netgear connect (wired) to the D-Link and to set it's wireless network on wep so as to support the kids machines!!!ad astra per aspera

use a crossover cable from dlink lan port to netgear lan port.
On the netgear disable dhcp and assign it a ip number 1 up from the dlink's ip address.
enable the wireless on the netgear
dhcp will flow from the dlink to your kids pcs.
That's all there is to it.

didn't work. The Vonage router - also connected to the DLink and all other pc's connected in the network went offline. This crossover cable - it probably is different than regular patch cables, wheter 5e or cat 6 - right? Something tells me that they are...likely the stranding is different, much like a stage snake with inverted polarities...like pin 6 on one end goes to pin 1 on the other, right?

just configure the second wireless router as access point only, then you should be able connect to wireless network via second router.
