Comment:

I am on a wirless network with a Netgear router. I have AOL DSL and I am upstairs on my computer. The router is downstairs in the office. I can't connect to that computer. When I go to My network places I see the icon for the "Office" computer but I can't connect onto it. I NEED to get some files from it. I am running Windows ME. Could it be that my computer is getting slow? I only have 5G left and 256 RAM. Anyways, I have tried the Windows Help program and that doesnt help at all. Thanks for the help in advance.

If you go to the command line and type ipconfig /all

what do you get? if you get an ip address can you ping the ip address of the router?

In network properties do you have "file and printer sharing enabled"?

Do you have "client for Microsoft networks enabled"?

Are the two machines in the same workgroup?

Do you have any security settings in place on router?

Do you have a software firewall installed?

With your wireless, do you have a good signal strength?

Are those files in a folder that has been shared?

Just some of the stuff you might want to take a look at. The more info you post the better!

AOL is a poor DSL provider. If I were you I would dump their service. Which I think is not even service when it comes to AOL.

Having AOL has nothing to do with whether or not I can connect to the other computer.

The signal strength is usually around 50-70%.

We are both in the same workgroup

How could I tell if Client for Microsoft Networks is enabled?
