Does your PC have a wireless network interface? If not, you'll never connect wirelessly until you purchase one, install and configure it.

When you plugged in via a wired connection, was your NIC (network interface) on your computer set to get it's TCP/IP information automatically (DHCP)? If not, make sure it is as in most cases, this is necessary in order for the computer to get a valid, working IP and thus be able to connect to the internet.
