I have a HP 8000(networkable) that I want to connect to my pc using an RJ45(crossover) cable. I have set an IP address on the printers Jetdirect card(10.0.0.2) and an IP on the pc's card(10.0.0.5). I can ping the nic in the pc and I get a response. When I ping the printer no response. There is no hub anywhere in this project. Just one pc and a printer. Any ideas? Thanx

Check your cable first, then check your default gateway on both pc and printer. What is the subnet mask do you use. If you use something like 255.255.255.0 or 255.0.0.0 or 255.255.0.0, use your default gateway as 10.0.0.1 on both machines. Once you can ping your printer, you can telnet to it and change settings remotely.
