We have a small office network with a cisco 1800 series router (Group A). The router is configured to provide access to the internet but to a very select list of sites. We would like to be able to connect to the interest unrestricted on a few computers. I have connected these computer into a network (Group B) using a linksys router. Then connected these two routers (cisco 1800 and linksys 4 port) to a linksys switch. Then the switch is connected to the cable modem. Using this setup I am able to connect the computers in Group B unrestricted to the interenet. However, Group A loses its connection to the internet. I thought using a switch from the cable modem to each router would enable the routers to determine if the computers can access the internet. This is my very first time posting to a forum and all help is greatly appreciated.

Apparently you only get one ip address from the internet provider. When your linksys gets it the cisco doesn't.

This is completely the wrong approach.

Correct approach is to bring in the cisco tech that configured the router to change the ACL to allow those specified computers full access.

Alternatively you can call your isp and pay a monthly charge for another ip address. Then your setup would work.

Though again its not the correct approach. Now you have to consider the ips these connected machines get and if you want them communicating between themselves. It takes special considerations to bring two internet points into a network.

Imagine the power of knowing how to internet search
