I have a Westel 327W modem/router with Verizon DSL which in recent times has been dropping connections frequently forcing us to continually turn off and on the router to get the laptop to reconnect. I have a Trendnet TEW452-BRP router (108Mbps) which I connected to the Westel modem/router and have things working through there. The problem is that when I go to http://192.168.1.1 I get the Westel set up instead of the Trendnet. Is there a way I can maybe redo the address for the Westel so I can access the Trendnet setup or some other solution?

Why do you need the second router? That's what's causing the problems.

The 2nd router is solving the problem. Because the Westell is dropping the connections all the time forcing us to run to the modem/router and turn it off and on to reconnect (The only way that seems to work currently). It was working nicely for 18 months prior.

To get around the problem I just hooked up the other router so that we only use the modem part of the Westell and not the router. So far so good.

Also the Westell only had WEP and a faulty WPA security which took ages to connect to, while the Trendnet connects fast using WPA2.

Instead of going through all that, why don't you tell Verzion to upgrade your router?

To answer your question, why don't you just disable the wireless operation on the Westel? You didn't provide much information, are you saying that the web setup for BOTH of these routers is at the same address of 192.168.1.1? If so, I'm surprised your setup works. Sounds like all you want the Westel to do is be a modem for the Trendnet router. If that's the case, then I would disable everything on the Westel that is not needed to provide that basic function. Even the DHCP, and just manually address the Trendnet WAN connection. It's not good having two routers on the same network trying to provide the same client services.

On your suggestion, I turned wireless off on the Westell and unchecked "the Private LAN DHCP Server Enable" box. All the other LAN type options have DHCP unchecked too. It hasn't solved the problem though.

Both routers have the address of 192.168.1.1. When I changed the Trendnet to 192.168.2.1, I was able to connect to Trendnet, but it no longer connected via the Westell to the internet until I changed it back. I don't know why.

You changed the wrong octet. 192.168.1.2 not 2.1

It has to be on the same subnet.

Well changing the TrendNet IP to 192.168.1.2 worked in that I could access the set up of either the modem or the router, but stopped me from accessing the internet again until I restored it back to 1.1. Mysterious. Does the TrendNet need to have DHCP enabled - it didn't seem to when I was in the set up though it working fine now (though I can no longer access its setup)

Only the Westell should have DHCP enabled, if you insist on using it. I use all static IP addresses. I don't like DHCP. If Westell is 192.168.0.1 and Trendnet is 192.168.0.2 and your PC is 192.168.0.3, all should work. Set the gateways to the next hop upstream.

However, I still say that if you have Verizon upgrade the router, they may give you a wireless router. I have a Dlink wireless from Verizon. I don't know why you are going crazy when one phone call might solve the problem.
