Hi All

I have a situation like this one
,company spread over two floors has split into 2 companies and the scanario
is as follows

Same building,
on floor 2 there is a LAN, win2k server (DC, DNS & DHCP), 3Com switches,ADSL
broadband router, Class C Subnet 192.168.254.x

on floor 1 there is a LAN, win2003 SBserver (DC, DNS & DHCP), Netgear
switch, Class C Subnet 192.168.62.x

I need the LAN on Floor 1 to be able to use the internet via the ADSL
broadband connection on the LAN on Floor 2
(I can physically connect the two LANS together as there is access through
the floor / ceiling)

This will only be a temp solution until a ADSL line is installed on floor 1
(but that is a couple of weeks away)

What do I need to to do to get Floor 1 LAN on the internet using the
broadband connection on floor 2 (believe me I have looked on google and read
some documents that involved routing tables and metrics..it was confusing to
say the least)

I thought someone in this Comminity might have done this and could
point me in the right direction:-) Please:-)

Thanks in advance

Ed

can't do it without a router to route between the subnets.
This means you either have to bring up a linux box as a router using a workstation with two nics or you use the server on floor two as a router by putting in a second nic and engaging RRAS. Floor one connects to the 2nd nic.

Or I would place a workstation on floor one that was just an extension of floor two's network. Everyone on floor one would have to share that workstation for internet access.

All of this is a lot of work when compared to having dsl in a couple of weeks. I would just wait.

Give a person a fish you feed them for a day.
Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Yes I agree waiting is best..but you know what the answer to that is..

I like the idea of having one pc connected to the Floor 2 LAN and Floor 1 Lan PC sharing its connection.

Not having done this before..how do you suggest I do it (The PC will most likely be WIN XP)..Do I set it to share it connection and be the gateway?

The other pc's get their ip and settings from the win 2003 server..so do I then set the gateway address as this PC's ip??

Please advise

Chhers

If you go into Help and Support off the start menu on a XP pro box and look up "internet connection sharing" you will have your answers.

Actually I was suggesting a internet kiosk not using the pc as a router.

I would not use dhcp for this xp box on either side. You need to use static ip address which are not included in either dhcp scope.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
