Comment: I have two problems: 1. My winxp desktop icon went missing. How can I find it again? 2. I want to connect my win98se with my winxp to transfer files via a cable? I want to construct this cable myself so step-by-step procedures will be appreciated. Then, exactly where do I plug these in and how are they configured. Do the machines talk to each other on this or do I have to do it manually. Help please. When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Reply: (edit)Here's the standards for making cables: http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable5.htm Making cables requires, cable, RJ-45 ends and an RJ-45 crimper. Make sure when making the cables the wires go all the way to the end of the RJ-45 end before you crimp it so you get proper contact. You'll want to make a crossover cable for a PC to PC connection like this. You will need a Network Interface (NIC) in both PC's. That's where you plug the cable in.
