I need to connect two Windows systems using a crossover cable so that I can transfer my old files to my new computer. I need to know how to set this up and how I would go about doing it. Also, as a side note, the Win95 machine doesn't list the Ethernet card in the networking devices of control panel. Is it possible for me to do this without the NIC listed? What am I supposed to configure, TCP/IP, File Sharing?

Hi ya
You'll need a crossover cable (looks v.similar to an RJ45) & yes you will need to have the network card configured in the 95 PC. First check device manager & see if its installed ok there. If not remove it & restart - afterwards you may need to run the driver from the cd. (check for lights on the NICs) Add the protocol:microsoft tcp/ip to network neighbourhood & the service: file sharing, then rightclick on drives & sharing, then set static ips for each pc etc.
you should see your pc under network neighbourhood & shortly after the other. can try pinging the other pc's ip under command prompt.
think that should do ya!

One bit missing - you'll need client for microsoft networks installed and used as main logon (so you get a network logon prompt) on 95 machine. Also, watch out for what 95 installs when you add NIC - it defaults to IPX & netbeui & doesn't include TCP/IP - just remove IPX & netbeui & add TCP/IP.
