I would like to connect a desktop to a laptop so I can transfer the files to the laptop.
Can you tell me how to proceed? what type of cable, and how to configure the pc's?

if no network card, you can do a serial port to serial port connection or LPT to LPT connection and use the Direct cable connection wizard to set up the connection.
