We got my boyfriend a Netgear 54 mbps wireless USB 2.0 adapter in the hopes of getting his PC running faster. It's connected to his computer, and wirelessly to my router. But the speed is no faster than before. In fact, it seems to be running even slower. Is this because of his processor speed? Is it possible to upgrade his processor, or is it time to be looking for a new PC? Without the adapter, he connects to the internet via dial-up, and lately, he has been able to connect to his ISP, but he can't get on the internet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Windows XP service pack 3
Intel Celeron D 3.20 GHz 256 mb RAM

256 MB of RAM is a very small amount to run Windows XP. I would upgrade that first before anything else. That computer uses DDR PC3200 RAM. It can use up to 2 GB. You can buy 1 GB here, which will be enough to run XP at a decent level:
