connected to network, but no internet

Acer / Aspire 1640

Specs: Windows XP Home
I am able to connect to my network, both wirelessly and hard wired. The computer is able to get an IP address and all that fun stuff. I'm even able to ping the router as well as other computers on the network. However, no connection to the internet what-so-ever. No connection for updates, I can't even log into my router. I'd love to just reformat, but unfortunately the CD-ROM drive is no longer working either. I've tried scanning for virus multiple times, I have applied the WinSock fix. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance

Try to connect only on hard wired. Then use the simple "network wizard" on the windows. See if that will work.
