Hi,

I have a wired router. I want to add a Notebook to the network using that router, but wirelessly. The notebook is fully capable of wireless networking. Is there any way to connect it to the router wirelessly? For example, is there any sort of "gizmo" I can buy that hooks up to one of the ethernet ports on the router and transmits a signal wirelessly, acting like an ethernet wire?

Thanks.

Yes. It's called a wireless access point...but, it's probably cheaper to replace your wired router with a wireless router, which handles both wired and wireless connections.

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon X2 4800+

2x37GB WD Raptors, RAID 1

The cheapest WAP I can find is like 40USD. Is it possible to find cheaper?

You can get a good access point from Zip ZoomFly for around $60. Depending on the number of wired computers you have connected to your router an access point is easier to move around to the position that gives you the coverage that you desire, such as out on the patio, by running just one cable to the access point location.

I suppose you're referring to the D-Link one.

I live in Canada though, and I don't think these guys ship to Canada.

You are right, they quit shipping to Canada in 2005. Tiger Direct has a store in Canada, http://www.tigerdirect.ca . I have always had good luck shopping through them.

Both should work, but remember they are routers so when you hook them up they are hooked up different than the way you would normally connect a router. All the routing functions would need to be shut off because you already have a router connected to your network.

TigerDirect prices are too high, after shipping. That's why I never buy from them. :(
