Comment: Hi I have just set up an internet connection, when I have no encryption set up, the pc recognises the router and connects with no problems. When i enable encryption and update my PC, it connects to the router ok, but doesnt seem to obtain an IP address. I have tried to renew the IP by using the ipconfig command, but it says that it cannot reach the DHCP server. What is going on? If i enable security it connects but has no IP (ie no internet), if I disable encryption, then all is ok and an IP address is obtained. Anyone shed any light on this?

Reply: (edit)I assume you are talking about a wireless connection. If that's the case, the encryption has to be enabled on both the router and the NIC. Are you doing that?

Reply: (edit)Hi Yes I am doing that. When the encryption password is set on both the router and the NIC it connects fine to the router, but not to the net. It cannot get an IP address. However if encryption is disabled, then all is ok! What do you think it is? Thanks
