connect to network but no internet access

Specs: Windows 7
i just hooked up a dlink router at home so i can use my laptop in different rooms. i have a desktop in one room and the internet works fine but when i hooked up the wireless router i can connect to the network but it says no internet access so i cannot get online my brother in law is really good with computers and i called him and tryed doing a bunch of different things like changing the web address and such but nothing will work. can u please tell me how to fix this problem asap

This wireless router you hooked up, is it additional to another router you already have in place with the internet plugged into it?

If yes, click on my name above in my response and read my "how-to" guide titled, "Add a second Router to your LAN". You'll want the scenario where you are using a single subnet and connecting the router's "LAN port to LAN port"
