hi
i have a cisco 871 router. it have one fast ethernet wan port and four manageble switch port. hear is the seen. i have lan network running under vlan 2 id. so i cant connect to that vlan using my laptop. coz those frames are tagged with vlan two id. is there any way to log in to that network using that router.
please tell me the brief configuration to configure tthat cisco 871 router. i only want to untag that frames using my router.
thx

Ok, let's see if I have this straight. Your LAN is connected on VLAN 2. Your laptop is not on VLAN 2. You wish to connect the laptop to VLAN 2 when it's plugged into the router, is this correct?
If you have managable LAN ports on the router, assign VLAN 2 to the port you plan on plugging your laptop into then plug the laptop into that port. NOTE: your laptop still has to have an IP in the same subnet as the rest of VLAN or it won't be able to connect to that VLAN.
I'm not overly familiar with that model router but if the IOS is similar to the other Cisco routers and managed switches I've used, you would have to log into it, go into privileged mode and then into global configuration mode. Then you would bring up the interface you wish to add the VLAN to, add the VLAN and then go back to privileged mode and save the config.
ex:
enable
<password>
configure terminal
int fa0/1
switchport access vlan2
exit
exit
write mem
exit

thx for the response.
i have another small unclear place.
my router have one wan port and 4 lan switch port.
should i connect my wan port to vlan 2 network switch port and shall i connect to my lap top to router switch port ?
that have only fa0, fa1, fa2, fa3, fa4
thx

A WAN port is for a WAN (wide area network) connection. If you have internet access, that would be where you connect your internet. That port would also be used for say, a dedicated line between one site and another. Don't use it for your laptop or switch connection.
The switch should plug into a LAN port on the rouer which also has to be configured to carry VLAN 2 (and any other VLAN's enabled on the switch).
In all honesty, you should be plugging the laptop into the switch but you can plug it in on a LAN port on the router, providing the port you plug it into is tagged for VLAN 2.

ok. that mean i have ton connect my lap top and vlan 2 connection to the router switch ports. then lets see hear.
lap top is connect to the port A and vlan 2 tagged network is connect to port B. can u tell me how to confugure port A and Port B.
thxxxxxxxxx
