we used to have dynamic connect to server now have to use ip address. When user computer is shut off, we have to reenter ip to reconnect to file the connection from the ip to server name was very helpfull
Something is wrong with the DNS setting on the client I would bet. Is this a workgroup or a domain?
If you have other clients that don't have this issue, open a command prompt window on one of them and on the problem PC (ie: Start >> Run >> type cmd and hit Enter)
Once open, run the following command on both:
ipconfig /all
Compare output. The only thing that should differ from one client to another is the actual IP of each PC. The rest of the settings should be identical.
