Connect Samsung Blu-ray to WRT54G Wireless

June 22, 2010 at 17:53:58
Specs: Windows Vista Premium, E2200 / 4GB

Here are the steps I used to get my Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-ray Player connect via wireless Linksys WRT54G router.

Upated the LINKSYS ROUTER to the current firmware version (8.00.8) - download it to your desktop: WRT54G 8.00.8 Firmware

To perform this, make sure you are using the computer directly connected to the router, not a wireless connection.

Log into the router (http://192.168.1.1), then click Administration>>Firmware Upgrade.

Select the firmware file you downloaded and upload it to the router. This will take a couple of minutes, then, the router will restart.
(THERE WASN’T ANY OUTWARD INDICATION OF THE RESTART.)

Now reset the router - power off the modem and computer connected to it. Press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds, then release. Power off the router.

Power on the modem, wait 60 seconds
Power on the router, wait 60 seconds
Power on the computer

Log into your router (http://192.168.1.1) and click Wireless. Set the network name to anything you would like, just make sure there are no spaces in the name.

Click Wireless Security, just below Wireless. Change the security mode to
WPA2-Personal, then, enter a password of at least 8 characters in the pre-shared key/passphrase box. Save the settings.

Use your Blu-Ray to find your network, then, enter manual settings. Use these:
IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1

Connect with these settings and enter your WPA2 key when prompted.

Are you stating that you did this, or that there is an issue with the WiFi connection?

Hello,

These were the steps I took to get my Samsung BD-C6500 to connect wirelessly to my Linksys wrt54g router. This model of has wireless capabilities built-in, so I didn't have buy/use the Samsung wireless adapter as described in the HOW TO section of this site.

AlanH, Thank you very much for your help! I was so frustrated that my new Samsung BD-C6500 wasn't able to connect properly to my WRTG54 Router. Updating the routers Firmware to the latest version and also checking and updating the software on the Samsung blu ray did the trick! You saved me alot of frustration with your post, thanks again!
